Nigerian rice productions” is approximately 2.5 million hectares of land, according to some sources, this land mass is just nearly that of Brazil which is about 2.9 million hectares of land. Brazil is still counted as one of the biggest Rice producers in the world. In fact, according to some sources, Brazil is the tenth largest producer of rice in the world. The "local market for rice in Nigeria" over the years has gained massive improvement. Almost every restaurants, events serve rice in some kind or as a form of food either at home or at work places.

When rice are processed, the by products are serve as feed for cattle and some other livestock and it is also relatively easy to produce. These factors also combined with others such as financial and economic, contribute to making rice one of the most soughed food items in the Nigerian market. Nigerian home grown rice is certainly more appealing and enjoyable to most Nigerians, according to reports than the imported rice. This along with the earlier stated points contribute to the boost that local rice production has experienced.

The processing of rice in Nigeria has increased all over the country in recent time. Most of these mills are operated locally and managed. Prior to the mechanization of this process, the production of rice suffered considerably. The production suffered mostly due to manual labour and poor end product. Some of the rice processing companies in Nigeria includes; "Abadini Rice" "Lake rice", Jargaban rice and Crystal rice.

In order to improve youth involvement in agricultural production Nigeria, attention should be given to the factors leading to youth migration to urban areas. In addition, the economic constraints facing youth in agriculture such as lack of credit, weak profitability, capacity constraint, etc, which should be examined.

Encouraging Youth Involvement in Agriculture and Agribusiness

Nigeria youths are now been encouraged to get involved in modern ways of agriculture and agribusiness most especially in rice farming which will prosper the economy.After the training, those who choose to start an enterprise should be funded and encouraged while those who choose to work should be placed in farms of those who choose to create enterprises, that way their knowledge is used to build their businesses and that way it becomes sustainable and money realized from the business will be used to further their education in any course of study they choose.
