Report From NPHCDA Said Scientists Have Found Vaccines That Can Protect People Against COVID-19

Scientists Have Found Vaccines That Can Protect Us Against COVID-19

The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) has said, scientists have found vaccines that can protect us against COVID-19. Many countries have started using them as they have been certified safe and effective.

COVID19 vaccines were developed following the same scientific and legal protocols for quality, safety, and efficacy as for all other vaccines.

The NPHCDA is engaging the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Government’s effort to vaccinate Nigerians against #COVID19. As critical stakeholder, the sensitization meeting provides an opportunity to share up-to-date COVID-19 Vaccine Introduction Plan, secure buy-in and agree on roles and responsibilities.

COVID-19 vaccines aim to prevent COVID-19 disease by triggering an immune response. COVID-19 vaccines are being developed following the same legal requirements for quality, safety, and efficacy as all other vaccines. Like all vaccines, the effect of COVID-19 vaccines are tested first in the laboratory, including in animals, and then in human volunteers.

The National Regulatory Authority, such as NAFDAC, is the agency in charge of evaluation and supervision of medicinal products. It will evaluate COVID-19 vaccines against the same high standards as for all other vaccines before they can be released for use.

NAFDAC will continually monitor side effects in people who have received COVID-19 vaccines and identify and evaluate new information that arises on the benefits and safety of COVID-19 vaccines promptly.

NPHCDA, is also collaborating with UNICEF, hosts a stakeholders' Workshop for the review and finalization of a “Mother and Child Health Handbook”. In her presentation and goodwill message, Akemi Bando - the Secretary General of International Committee on MCH Handbook wished Nigeria well in her quest for the development of an MCH Handbook.
